Golden Showers in Brussels!!!

Naughty naughty you for thinking this was really going to be about me and GOLDEN SHOWERS. I know I’ve written about a lot of crazy things, but I’m not into this type of thing. I do however know a city that is into that type of thing. The city of Brussels is obsessed with golden showers.

Val & I taking a canal tour of Bruges.

After spending 8 wonderful nights in Paris eating some great foods, sight seeing and wondering if others are jealous of “Mona Lisa” it was time for me to move along. I really had no plan after Paris, I just knew I had 8 days to get to Amsterdam in time for pride so I thought 8 days in Belgium should be perfect. My first stop in Belgium was Brussels. The great thing was that my stop here coincided with Val’s stop there from Silly America. Finally after months of following each other on twitter we met and we met earlier than planned because we are still doing a week in Valencia to do La Tomatina.  We spent 2 nights in Brussels and well that was just enough time to find out that this city is obsessed with peeing things.

To be honest the only thing I knew about Brussels was little pee man other than that nothing else. Oh & that Belgian waffles, beer and chocolate are amazing. So I of course came with an open mind, but after looking at a tourist map Val noticed a few peeing structures dotted around town. So we made our way to all 3 of them to snap some shots. As we made our way to these structures we also notice little pee man everywhere and other things peeing as well. Enjoy these shots of peeing object from Brussels.

See I didn’t lie Brussels is obsessed with GOLDEN SHOWERS. I’ve seen cities embrace many things but never peeing things. All in all I enjoyed my 2 days in Brussels. It’s a very ugly city, but they are proud of it. By ugly I mean very dark, dirty and just very random. If you want to know what else I did during my 2 days there check out Val’s post ‘’Big balls ahead! (or I don’t know!)”. We also spent time in a fair, blowing a big horn and searching for big balls.

So tell me have you been to Brussels? Did you notice their obsession with peeing things? Have you been to a city that embraces something weird? Share below…

  2. We were in Brussels last summer, also got a kick out of the numerous peeing statues! We were sitting outside one afternoon at Delirium Cafe and noticed tons of people walking past us down the alley, taking a picture, and then walking back. They all looked like they were on a mission, so naturally we had to check it out. Sure enough, it was Jannekin Pis. I didn’t even know that one existed, why would a city have more than one peeing statue? I though it was pretty goofy, but the beer was sure delicious!

    • Oh Daryle that is funny… yes I felt weird walking down that alley solely to get a shot of a peeing girl. I am glad I am not alone in noticing the obsession this town has with peeing objects. I don;t understand why any city would have more than one peeing statue, but they are proud of it.

  3. I can’t help but wonder why I clicked on a post called golden showers haha.

    Shouldn’t look…. must look!

  4. I’m going to confess that when I first read the title “Golden Showers” I thought you were going to talk about showers made out of gold. Imagine my surprise 🙂
Great pictures and great article. My favorite is the one holding a Belgium waffle.

    • Ja Bob yeah that would have been funny. Yeah I love that picture I just find it strange a city would embrace such a thing, but loved it!!!

  5. That’s funny! Have never been there so this is new to me.

  6. Interesting that you describe Brussels as a ‘very ugly city’ – I’ve only driven through Brussels last year but never explored the city properly. People seem to love it though, especially the Grand Plaza.

Can’t wait to hear how you like the rest of Belgium.

    • Yeah Dani the Grand Plaza is pretty but that is about it. We spent a few hours actually walking through the city and yeah its just very dark, gray and ugly. Even though that was the case we loved it and found a lot strange objects around the city including a lot of peeing objects.

  7. I guess I should be ashamed of only having visited Brussels once, even thought it only a 1 1/2hr train ride from where I used to live. I really liked the city itself, especially the warm waffels 🙂 Would love to visit it a second time and explore more of it.

    • Tijmen it is a great city… I did lie it alot but would not see why anyone would say OMG I MUST VISIT!!!

Give it a 2nd chance and you may see some more quirks…

  8. Love Brussels! I have been to Belgium three times and each time it was sadly just for one day. Bruges, Brussels, & Ghent are the cities that I have visited and loved them all. My feeling upon arriving in Brussels was that it totally reminded me of an American city, but at that time in my trip, I was okay with it. So, did you try some Framboise Lambic?

    • Actually Scott one day may be enough for this city but am glad I spent 2… I only visited Brussels, Bruges & Antwerp. Belgium was a god country to visit. I loved the food and beer. As for trying Framboise Lambic… I didnt order it Val did and I did try it from her…lol… it was good!

  9. Why why WHY are there so many people peeing all over the place. I knew about the little boy sculpture but I think I’m rather bothered by the squatting girl.

        • Jaime Davila says:

Yeah and I’m used to walking long ways now to save things, but that day June I remember we just were so fucking tired. Yeah the train is great in Belgium and because it’s short distances doesnt cost much. Yeah we are heading up to CM tomorrow night.
