  1. Great list Jaime! I think you’ll adjust to having a daypack just fine. It is kind of annoying having a big DSLR sometimes, but I don’t think the daypack will be drastically different than your old string bag. (Though, that bag takes up like no space, might be worth taking for beach days or something when you don’t want to bring the camera? Just a thought.) Sometimes it’s nice to have the full daypack because not only can you carry your camera in it, but a bottle of water, jacket/long sleeve shirt in case it’s cold, snack, the Gorrillapod, whatever. Also, I’m really looking forward to seeing your pictures once you start traveling. You took such great photos with your point and shoot, and I’m interested to see what you end up with while using the DSLR, especially the 10-22mm lens. I have the kit lens (I forget what the lower end of it is but the upper end is 55mm) and a zoom lens that I think is 55-150mm. Anyway, so excited for you!

Ali, I hope I adjust to the day pack, because honestly the thought of it alone makes me go crazy. You’re right I forgot I need to carry the gorilla pod in there too…lol. Thanks for the compliment on my photos. I honestly can’t wait to take photos with it too. I’ve had it for a long time and actually never used it much. I plan on practicing while I’m in the small town my parents live in. Anyway omg less than 10 days and I’m out of here!!!

  2. Damn, I wish I was a guy and could travel with only that haha. I upgraded from my point & shoot too and now use a Rebel T3i, it’s a great beginner SLR! Can’t wait to read all about your travelssss!

PS. Thoughts on Kel’s baby’s name? Hahaha. I WANT PHOTOS ALREADY!

Oh yes thankfully I’m a man and don’t need much! Oh I’m glad you upgraded too and like it. Can’t wait to finally learn how to use mine.

OMG KELLYS BABY… I actually love the name. It’s cute and not tacky like other celebrities. Oh & yes PICTURES I can’t WAIT.

  3. I love packing lists. Can’t get enough off them. 🙂 I absolutely agree on bringing jeans, especially when travelling in South America. They are a) nice and warm and b) you feel less like a traveller and blend more in with the locals.

  4. Packing lists are always fun to read. I love it!

While I’m taking a bit less clothes than you, your list of items is works for you, and that’s what’s important. So if you felt you needed those things, that’s what matters most.

I’m not starting my RTW until early 2015, but I’m already thinking and re-thinking what to take with me. One of the easiest things I decided on was electronics. If I could, I would take only a few electronics with me – my camera, e-reader, and a tons of SD cards. However, I will be working on the road, so a laptop and backup hard drive(s) are also necessary. If I didn’t need the laptop for work, I would invest in a tablet for research, booking rooms/tickets, maps, etc.

You’ve also sold me on the Pacsafe daypack, so it’s now on my list 🙂

Summar so glad I’m not the only one who thinks that packing list are fun to read. Thats exciting to hear that you have a trip coming up. I’d honestly recommend to start buying things now every other week or here & there so in the end you are not left with having to spend a lot to buy everything. That is what I did on my 1st RTW and it helped a lot. I had bought my backpack like 8 months before I even left jaja. I feel the same way as you with electronics. If I didn’t blog I know I would just have my iPod or a tablet to stay connected with everyone. Oh & daypack is awesome. If you need anything or have any questions let me know and if I can help you I will help you.

Hi, Jaime. How do you secure your 40L backpack when checking-in on flights?

    • Jaime Davila says:

Hi JEff, thankfully normally it’s carry on so I don’t have to worry about it. When I do check it in I put some locks on the main zippers, but they can still access it if they want so just trust that no one goes through it. NOt that I have much of value in that. I always carry my very important stuff in my daypack.

  6. Have you weighed your pack/s? I’ve decided to try and go carry-on only for my trip but I’m struggling to keep to the weight limits. My packing list is already down to the bare minimum as it is (less that yours). Have you ever had any issues trying to carry on your pack?

  7. Great Packing Lists you have.
