A stroll through Stockholm in photos!!!

I was in Stockholm as part of the #MyGayPride campaign to cover many of the Stockholm Pride festivities. During that time I was busy going from one place to another, staying up late partying a bit and really felt like I didn’t have time to explore the city like I normally do when I visit a city. I love walking around for hours and hours and love getting lost and go crazy taking photos. After the sponsored portion of my time was done I decided to stay 2 more nights on my own, because I was honestly loving Stockholm and wanted to see more. I searched for a cheap hostel and well they aren’t cheap in Scandinavia, but found one for $30 a night and am glad I stayed two extra days to explore on my own. That’s when I really learned to appreciate the true beauty of Stockholm. That’s when I realized… Stockholm is, but one big labyrinth.

Imagine a labyrinth dating back to the 13th century with medieval alleyways, cobbled streets, and arches. Now imagine being able to actually explore and get lost in that labyrinth. Well you can! I’m talking about the labyrinth that is Gamla Stan… Stockholm’s Old Town. This is where Stockholm was founded in 1252 and today it’s actually one of the best preserved medieval city centers in Europe.

That’s not it though, as Gamla Stan… The Old Town grew it spread over to nearby islands. They may not be as medieval, but they are still part of the beautiful labyrinth that is Stockholm. During my stay there I was given the Stockholm Card that gave me access to use the cities metro for free an unlimited amount of times and yet I opted to walk just about everywhere. Stockholm is just one of those cities that you want to walk every where because it’s just that beautiful and around every corner is something new to admire. It is also has amazing views of the other islands that leave you in awe. I’ll leave you with these photo for you to see what it is I am talking about. Even though yeah these don’t do it justice!!!

That is Stockholm…
it’s a cobble stone alley…
it’s a bike leaning against the wall…
it’s the view from sea of it’s perfectly lined buildings…
it’s the sun shining through narrow alleys…
it’s a man walking his dog…
it’s getting lost and finding beauty around every corner…
it’s the sun rising at 4am.
It’s all that in the photos and much more.

The best way to explore is to just get lost. Yes seriously just go and get lost… especially when you are exploring Gamla Stan… The Old Town, it’s small and round so you really can’t get lost so no need to worry. Aside from walking around, Stockholm also offers over 100 world class museums you can visit. I visited the following and enjoyed them so you may too. I visited Museum of Spirits and Absolut Art Collection, The Royal Opera House, Fotografiska, and ABBA The Museum. All in all Stockholm honestly surprised me. It was much more than I would have ever expected. It’s a city that has a bit of everything for everyone and best of all it’s a city that takes pride in supporting the LGBT community!!!

  3. OMG!! I really like your style on writing and photo. Stockholm reminds a bit of Florence… at least it the part that it’s kind of a labyrinth.
