Stories written about Paris can fill a stadium and I am sure photos taken of Paris can too. Especially photos taken of it’s icons. We all know Paris… we have seen it in movies, TV shows and just about every media outlet possible. It’s the city of lights, a city of romance and a city millions dream of visiting once in their lives. It’s a beautiful city and is no wonder why the world loves it. I didn’t have plans to revisit this city for a long time, but since all my plans in Europe changed the opportunity arose for me to go back and visit friends I made on the road. So I thought why not and went back for 2 days. I had one full day while I was there and decided to walk to all it’s icons. Yes I had seen them all before, but it’s Paris so why not see them again!
My hostel was located a few blocks from the Sacred Heart of Paris so decided to start there and make a circle around Paris walking from icon to icon. I started my day at 9am and finished at 6pm. If you have 24 hours in Paris this is a perfect manageable walk that anyone can do. That morning I literally grabbed a map and circled all the main icons of Paris and just walk from one to the other. Start from the nearest icon to you and make a loop. Yes it’s that easy!!! My loop went in the order of the photos below.
—The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris, commonly known as Sacré-Cœur Basilica—
—Moulin Rouge—
—The Arc de Triomphe de l’Étoile—
—Eiffel Tower—
—Eiffel Tower—
—Eiffel Tower—
—Love Locks—
—The Louvre Pyramid (Pyramide du Louvre)—
—Notre-Dame de Paris; French for “Our Lady of Paris”—-
—Street Art—
—Streets of Paris—
—Shot of Gare de Lyon train station in Paris on 9/1/15.—

I know… they are all in black and white. It wasn’t easy for me to turn all these photos to black and white, but I wanted to keep all the photos uniform and this was the best way to do so. Honestly I like them more like this than in actual color. Plus I think I’m getting addicted to black and white photography. I also threw in street art as an icon because as you walk around you will see some and well y’all know I love street art. You may have also noticed I included the streets. Oh yes the streets of Paris are just as iconic as its actual icons. That is why I don’t understand why anyone would do a hop on hop off bus in Paris. There is nothing wrong with them, but those people are missing one of the main attractions in the city… the streets themselves. The streets are so fucking amazing to walk around and beautiful and are what make Paris… Paris!
If you have 24 hours in Paris or hell even there for a few days and want to see all the icons in one day just make a loop. The 9 hours I spent walking around also included going up to the top of the Eiffel Tower. I didn’t go up the first time I was in Paris because the lines were ridiculous, but as I arrived to the tower this time saw no lines so went up. So you even have time to do that if you see the lines aren’t long. Paris is huge but the distances from all it’s icons are not that far. According to my Fitbit I walked a total of 17 miles (27km) that day. Seems like a lot, but it’s not really and in the end you look at it as an amazing work out for beer credit when you are done. Oh yes I got back to the hostel in time for happy hour and drank a few beers. So there you have it a walk in Paris from icon to icon that anyone can do!
Nice photos. I think black and white suits Paris well. Guys like Peter Turnley are producing a whole body of work about Paris in b&w.
I totally agree with you, it’s a delight to walk in Paris. There’s so much to see: the boulevards, the small, charming squares, the bridges over the Seine, the people, the cafés… and of course all the magnificent architecture.

Thanks Daniel. I heard what happened and still can’t believe it. My thoughts have been with Paris and Beirut and Baghdad and everywhere tragic events are taking place. We live in such a beautiful world filled with more good than bad… always remember that!
Sad to hear as to what happened in Paris. And I agree with you Jaime. There is more good than bad in places we live in.
