8 Essential Travel Tips Before You Go on Holiday

Going on a holiday? We all want to achieve a hassle-free trip, but this is easier said than done. A lot of hard work goes into planning for the perfect vacation. Also, if you aren’t prepared, you can easily forget even the most basic and essential items.

Taking care of your airfare, sorting out where you’ll stay, and pre-booking for an airport parking slot are just some of the things you need to cross off your list. So, to make sure you’ve got everything covered, we’ve put together this handy list of tips. Now, let’s get started.

  1. Pre-book a parking space. If you plan on driving yourself to the airport and don’t have a secure place to park your vehicle, it’s crucial to reserve a parking spot in advance, especially if you want to save a lot of money. With the holiday season fast approaching, you could end up with no parking spots left available.

  1. Get yourself checked. No matter what you think, it’s better to make sure you are fit to travel. Call your doctor, schedule an appointment, and get checked. Make sure you need all your medications, shots, or whatever you need to stay healthy during your trip.

  1. Make sure your passport is valid. It may have been awhile since you’ve checked the validity of your passport. Better to check at least a couple of months ahead. We all know how much of a drag it is to renew passports.

Also, have copies of your valid passport made, in case it gets misplaced or stolen. Have it scanned, then upload your digital copy to the cloud, like Google Drive

  1. Do your homework. Go online and research what you are allowed and not allowed to bring to the country you’re visiting. The last thing you need is to be hassled by immigration or airport staff because you brought along some items you weren’t supposed to.

  1. Check the weather before you leave. You can pack appropriate clothes in case it gets rainy or you can anticipate flight delays or heavy traffic on your way to the airport. It pays to be prepared for any type of weather during your travel.

  1. Have someone look after your home and pets. If you’re going away for an extended period, find someone trustworthy and reliable to look after things you leave at home, like watering your plants, or if you have pets, they need to be fed or taken for a walk.

Also, make sure all windows and doors are locked. Nothing worse will ruin your fantastic holiday experience than finding out that someone broke into your home. So, have a trusted neighbour or relative to check your house periodically.

  1. Write your itinerary. Depending on how long you’re staying in a specific place, you can make a list of activities and local attractions you want to visit. For example, if you’re into water-related activities, check out best beaches for surfing spots in town when you search online.

  1. Have all your electronic devices set up. If you get stuck somewhere, make sure you can entertain yourself. Save all your favourite e-books, songs, movies, what have you, on your tablet or mobile. You can easily pass the time while waiting for your flight in case it gets delayed.

Also, have a power bank handy to make sure you have enough juice on your mobile devices, you can’t always find a convenient place to charge them while you’re on the go. Don’t forget to install apps like maps to help you find your way around the city.
