“IN PHOTOS” is a series I will use to share many of the hundreds of photos I have taken during my travels. It is a series I have thought about for a while now, but did not want to start until I got back home from my trip. However after spending a week in Chefchaouen, Morocco I couldn’t wait any longer. “IN PHOTOS” will not have a set schedule like my “MUSIC MONDAY” or “PHOTO ROUND UP” series. “IN PHOTOS” will be a post with several photos with no limit. The only restriction this series will have is that it must be about a certain subject or theme. I will write a synopsis describing the subject or theme of the photos and then post the photos. I will not caption the photos like I do on my “PHOTO ROUND UP” with my thoughts. I want to use “IN PHOTOS” to share my photos and let you come up with your own thoughts about the images and hope you share them with me. I have also numbered them in case you want to leave a comment about a specific photo.

I’ve mentioned before that for many when they think of Cairo they think of a bustling city bursting at its seams with a population of over 20 million people in the middle of the desert. They think of the crowds, the traffic, the sand, the street vendors, the taxi’s and a million other things or they just think of The Great Pyramids of Giza (not the OTHER pyramids). Well all that is true and no matter what people think of Cairo I love it. I’ve now spent over 4 months total in Cairo and before I leave will be over 5. I have taken 100’s of photos of this amazing city and I just want to share a few with you now. These are by no means my best, these are just a few shots I think capture the essence of Cairo. For me the essence of Cairo is chaos and the natural shade of sepia that the city is coated in with the occasional bright color here and there. Cairo is a MAMOTH of a city that is very diverse as any other city in the world. These images are of Downtown Cairo the heart of the city with a beating pulse of someone who just ran a marathon that keeps this city alive. When I walk through the streets of Cairo I always feel an amazing rush of blood through my body that lets me know I am so alive and thriving at it. I hope these images convey a portion of what I think is the essence of the city and what it makes me feel.

Such a busy place! I didn’t realize that it was so congested. I love the angles of the 1st and last photos. What’s laying in the street in number 9?

Ah yes Elle very damn busy and just crazy… I love it. I have to be honest when I read your comment I swear it said ANGELS… and I was like WTF? and actually went back to the photos you mentioned and looked for ANGELS jajaja. Then I reread it and saw it said ANGLES… I’m such a blonde. Thanks for making me think a bit and make sure I read things right.
Cool pics dude, reminds me of the cairo cray cray.

Thanks Leif, I hope they captured the craziness that is Cairo. We know how crazy that city is and for some reason that is why I love it so much.
You’re starting to make me want to visit Cairo with your posts lately, you know? Jaime, I love love LOVE these photos! I adore seeing the more normal sides of cities like this, in addition to all the famous big-name sites. 11, 14, 15, 21 and 22 are my faves here 🙂

EEEeeeeee that’s good WT. That is my goal. I really wanna make people see Cairo from a new perspective because it gets such a bad rep around the world from people who only spend a day or two here and then carry on to the rest of Egypt. Glad you LOVED these photos and were able to see a normal side of Cairo. Hope you make it out here one day.
Jaime, your photos are getting better and better, the composition of these is lovely, and you’ve got a real eye for light too (I just wish you didn’t process them so heavily, those shadows in the corner detract from the beauty of them for me – I hate to sound too critical but it’s only because I think you take great photos. Apologies if that’s out of place)

Thank you very much Geoff and no don’t ever apologize for a comment you leave on my blog. I am 100% honest on my blog and expect my readers to do the same when they comment. Thank you for the criticism, because it always helps and rarely is a negative to hear. As for the shadows in the corner… I added them to give a more chaos and put the focus on the center. I also try not to edit my photos much but for IN PHOTOS series sometimes do to keep them all uniform and make them a collection. I’m glad you enjoyed them though and thanks again for your honest comment.
Thanks Jaime, your honesty in all of your writing is why you’ve become my favourite blogger. I’ve increasingly given up reading travel blogs as so many are just too obviously commercial, whereas your personality and emotions leap out of the page, which make your blog such a joy to read xx

Ah sorry to hear you have given up on many travel blogs, but am happy you still enjoy mine. This blog is like an extension of me and wanna make sure that it’s 100% honest and who I really am regardless of what anyone thinks. Thanks again Geoff and as usual if you need anything let me know.
#5 is what represents my favorite cities in the world. I love the chaos of cars in the street that is Thailand, China, Saudi, etc.
#17 is perfect. Just like you!
Lisa
AHHHHhh LISA #5 sometimes drives me crazy but for some reason I freaking love it too. Thanks about #17, ah I just love this city.
1, 8, and 11 are my faves 🙂
For some reason I’ve been thinking about you all morning. Hope you’re doing well and having a great day, m’dear!
Thanks Heather, hope it’s good things you have been thinking about. I’m doing well and just enjoy the last few weeks of my time here in beautiful Cairo.
Awesome shots!!!! I haven’t been, but I want to!

Oh wow Andi, yes you must visit one day it’s amazingly crazy.
Great photos Jaime! I think you did convey “your” Cairo. I especially like #16 with the little kid looking back at you.
Ali recently posted..How to Choose the Right Hotel for You
Thanks Ali, glad I was able to capture that. Oh I love that photo because I find it so strange how women carry their kids around here.
I love your photos! I really didn’t have a sense of Cairo before. Thanks for sharing that sense of blood rushing through your body. I am sure you will feel that in SE Asian cities. I feel that now in Sao Paulo, Brazil and I am soon to feel it in Tokyo. I hope you and your boyfriend can find a way to stay together!
Thanks Dave so much, glad I can share a side of Cairo most people don’t see. Well they do, but hate…lol. Oh & that feeling yes it’s one of the best feelings in the world and hope I feel in more cities I visit. I’ll in SEAsia soon so I will be looking out for it. As for me and my boyfriend we know after I leave that will be it for now. Neither of us want a long distance relationship, but know we will stay in touch and who knows what the future will hold for us.
Hey Jaime, long time no speak. Hows Misr? Really impressed you’re sticking it out for Ramadan. Sweet shots as well. Drink some cane juice for me!
Leif recently posted..Experiencing Racism as a Chinese Man
Hey Leif, everything is great… yup been sticking to Ramadan it’s over tomorrow. I can’t wait to celebrate. I will be sure to drink some cane juice for you!!!
Great pics! Love the just regular life shots of how the city lives and breathes. Sometimes all we think about are the tourist sites and there’s so much more to it than that!
Hogga recently posted..Scary Phnom Penh Stalker
Yup exactly Hogga, these really are just random shots of how the city lives & breathes. Ahh I love the way this city is so alive.
my father used to tell me cairo never sleeps, AMAZING to live there! if you ignored the few problems there lol.
Oh yes it NEVER sleeps… it’s crazy… so crazy & I love it. The good out weighs the bad. It’s a beautiful city.
