Occupy Madrid in photos.

“IN PHOTOS” is a series I will use to share many of the hundreds of photos I have taken during my travels. It is a series I have thought about for a while now, but did not want to start until I got back home from my trip. However after spending a week in Chefchaouen, Morocco I couldn’t wait any longer. “IN PHOTOS” will not have a set schedule like my “MUSIC MONDAY” or “PHOTO ROUND UP” series. “IN PHOTOS” will be a post with several photos with no limit. The only restriction this series will have is that it must be about a certain subject or theme. I will write a brief paragraph or sentence describing the subject or theme of the photos and then post the photos. I will label the photos (if you hover over them with your mouse you will see the label), but I will not caption the photos like I do on my blog post or on “PHOTO ROUND UP” with my thoughts. I want to use “IN PHOTOS” to share my photos and let you come up with your own thoughts about the images and hope you share them with me.

I have written about many subjects on my blog, but one I try and avoid is politics. I know crazy right I write about SEX, but not POLITICS? Well the thing is because my view point on “POLITICS” is kinda crazy. I won’t even try and go into that on this post… my thoughts would require a few post and since this is a “TRAVEL BLOG” I will try and avoid that. Oh & don’t get me wrong this is “MY BLOG” so in the end I can write about ANYTHING I WANT (I just don’t think y’all would like to hear my thoughts on politics I mean really they are just wild & crazy. Plus politics makes me angry and frustrated… (I’m not cute angry or frustrated). Anywho so… this will be my 1st attempt at a political post and I promise I will keep it short (ja that is why I made it an “IN PHOTOS” post).

I arrived in Madrid on a Thursday and as I wondered around the city I saw many posters for a MANIFESTATION (good word to use for protest). I took a few photos of them to get the location down. I had been hearing about October 15, 2011 for a while on the internet so knew this had to be related to Occupy Wall Street that started a month before. I did some research and sure enough it was. So I knew I had to attend. I knew I wasn’t going to protest with them, because I’m not willing to get arrested in a foreign country, but knew I could join them and march peacefully.

So what is the Occupy “X” movement going on around the world? It’s a movement to show our frustration with the way things are going on in the world. We are showing them that we are not oblivious to whats going on & that the governments of the world need to wake up and realize that. We know that CORPORATE GREED is what is making matters worse for the other 99% (the non rich). We also know that in most countries now our government doesn’t run our country… Huh you ask me? Yes we know that it is MULTIBILLION DOLLAR COMPANIES that are now running our government… How is that possible Jaime? Come on people we all know the politicians vote is bought before they even know how they wanna vote.

The last few sentences give you a bit of insight on how I feel about a few things. Now though I will focus on Occupy Madrid. I had never attended a protest in my life and I sure has hell had never attend a march this big. I was in awe at the sheer size of it (that sounds dirty *giggle*). After the event I read that Occupy Madrid actually had the largest turn out in Europe. I am also glad to report that it was a peaceful march through the city. I spent over 5 hours marching along with them and was able to capture many photos. Here I share with you my favorite photos. Letting you know now I agree with every single picture on this post. Oh & you will find translations below each picture if they are in Spanish.

Occupy Berlin demonstration photos, 15 October by Travels of Adam

I wish I could write a well thought out post like them two, but I just can’t. I am sorry… I really get frustrated and sad. It makes me angry that the people who caused this whole damn problem are getting away with everything.

Hope you enjoyed the photos & I hope you share your thoughts below.

  1. You got a lot of great shots, Jaime! Reading all of those signs reminds me of how sad the situation is. So many people struggling and frustrated under our current system.

    • Allison yes it’s crazy how much they can convey with such little amounts of words. I wonder if protest will be out on 5th of November. That reminds me I need to watch that movie cus I haven’t seen it in a LONG time.

  4. We visited the original protest in Zuccotti Park in NYC and took a whole heap of photos (uploaded one on our FB a few days ago) – this movement is gathering a whole lot of momentum and it’s gonna be very interesting to see how it all plays out!

    • Oh man Kieron I would love to go to one of the original protest in NYC. I know this movement is getting a lot of momentum and I am glad it is. Our governments need to wake up already….

  5. Hello, I simply wanted to take time to make a comment and say I have really enjoyed reading your site.
My site is about Cheap family vacations.

  6. Love it! Thanks for this post and great photos, as well as the links to the other blogs. I have been helping to organize Occupy Columbia, SC. We’ve occupied the grounds of the South Carolina State Capitol for 18 days straight (24 hours a day). Totally peaceful, law-abiding, zero arrests here. Working to dispel the myth that people in this Occupy movement don’t have jobs. Most of us at Occupy Columbia DO have jobs, but still recognize the inherent problems in our system.

    • Glad you enjoyed the post Camella!!! That is awesome that you helped organize it. I think it’s something people should realize too about the Occupy movement… we just want to be heard and hope that the problems in our system get fixed.
