Photo Round Up – Week 25

5 photo round up of what I saw/did this week.

Hope you all enjoy them.

Queen Mary 2 is a transatlantic ocean liner that at one point was the largest cruise ship in the world. She visits Hamburg a few times a year and I was able to see her leave the port. I loved that so many people from the city came out to see her and it was just huge.

One of the rides we got on at the Hamburger Dom in Hamburg. With three fairs (spring, summer and winter) per year Hamburger Dom is the biggest and the longest fair throughout Germany. It was so damn scary up there and they spin you super fucking fast. Ahh it was so much fun!

Glücksburg Castle in the town of Glücksburg,Germany. It is one of the most important Renaissance castles in northern Europe. It is the seat of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg and was used by the Danish kings. It is also the 1st castel I visit on my trip.

I'll be honest upfront... I hate editing my photos, but I did on this one. I changed the tent of the photo and for some reason I just fell in love with how this looks. This was one of the streets in Flensburg, Germany and for the life of us could not figure out why shoes were hanging all over the place.

Visiting Denmark was not in my plans at all, but I was able to visit a few of the small towns along the border with Germany. I of course had to have a famous Danish Hot Dog. They are known for loving hot dogs and I can see why. This is probably one of the best hot dogs I have ever had in my life. It was so good.

    • Erica the hot dog was amazing…about post process I know its okay, but I try not to edit my photos. I don’t know why I don’t like to. I do do a few touches but never a lot to actually change the image like I did on this one. I do love this photo though so I am okay with it!

  3. I asked the same thing when I saw the pic of the shoes hanging!

There are many spots I’ve heard about shoes hanging including “shoe trees” I don’t get it either… but hey!

  4. I love that shoe photo!

I used to never edit my photos except a crop here or there. A couple of friends gave me a few tips of advice with food photos and I gave it a try and BAM, the photo looked so much better. I only do a few minor things — I still don’t like changing a photo too dramatically — but it’s nice from time to time to edit a few things <3

  5. Hey Jaime, just found your blog a little while ago and have thoroughly enjoyed myself reading through your posts. You are hilarious! 😉 I love your adventures so far! Anyway, I’m from south Louisiana (about five hours east of Houston, actually!) and down here there’s an old tradition of “shoe trees”. Supposedly it’s a Cajun thing. (Though I’ve grown up here, my family isn’t from south LA so I don’t claim to be an authority and I’m certainly not a “real” Cajun. It’s just what I’ve heard from friends and other folk I’ve met.)

What I’ve heard is this: you’ll see big trees in Louisiana, especially out in the countryside, with a ton of old shoes hanging on them. When people were done with their shoes and they were looking pretty raggedy or they didn’t want/need them anymore, they would tie the laces together & throw them into the “shoe tree”. Anyone who was poor enough not to be able to afford a new pair of shoes (or any shoes at all, sometimes) could go and grab shoes from the shoe tree. You will see them in the cities in south LA sometimes as decoration outside of an “authentic Cajun” restaurant, but I have come across a very few in the back country bayou roads that look like they are legit shoe trees. Perhaps it’s an art installation in your photo inspired by this tradition??

I’ve also heard of gangs marking their territory through shoes on the power line (like in front of the high school I graduated from…hahahahaa) but I’ve never know if I actually believed that or not (and it usually involves much newer, nicer shoes…).

Anyway, enjoying your blog very much! Just thought I’d give my two cents. 🙂

    • Hey Moothril welcome to my blog, thank you for reading it and also commenting. Ahh Louisiana, Ive heard o many amazing things about it but have yet to go. I will get to some day. So about the shoe trees wow I have never heard of that, but it sounds so awesome. It actually make sense cus they were od raggedy shoes. I hope its the 1st thing you said and not the 2nd… That would be an interesting way for gangs to mark their territory. No I am wondering… lol!

      • Oh wow, you’ve never been? I’m so surprised! Of course, my dad’s from San Antonio so I’ve spent at least half of my Christmas holidays there. And I’m planning on moving to Austin after I ride the Trans-Siberian next January and backpack around China…so I feel like I’m in Texas a lot. 🙂 The difference between the two states are pretty fascinating. Hahaha maybe if you come back to the States soon, I’ll have to show you around New Orleans! I think you’d love the gay part of Bourbon Street and the amazing food. 🙂

Yeah, I would think it’s an art installation…but you never know…

        • I know being so close to it I can’t believe I have never been! I have been to San Antonio a million times and always love it! Oh that is cool that you are doing the Trans-Siberian and backpacking across China that should be epic. Ahh Austin is BEAUTIFUL… I love going there, I have friends that live there. Yeah if I’m back when you are it would be nice to visit New Orleans with a local.

          • I am so excited, I can’t wait! The last trip I was able to afford was to Ireland for spring break this year…backpacking Russia, Mongolia, China (possibly Tibet if I can get in) and South Korea is going to be my graduation present to myself. 😉 Reading travel blogs is how I can live vicariously until the next adventure. But I really can’t wait!

I adore Austin and San Antonio both – they’re so different from each other! Austin has the Southern hospitality/friendly vibe but with an actual progressive population (unlike most of Louisiana…hahahaha) which I love love love. And it doesn’t hurt that it’s so pretty! And San Antonio is just awesome. So desert for a girl from the swamp lands.

  6. You went to Denmark, how awesome is that!! Love that you went on that ride on the Hamburg Dom, would have totally joined you for that 😀 We saw the Queen Mary 2 today in New York City, by the way!
