A short adventure to Ephesus, Pamukkale & Cappadocia, Turkey in photos!

“IN PHOTOS” is a series I will use to share many of the hundreds of photos I have taken during my travels. It is a series I have thought about for a while now, but did not want to start until I got back home from my trip. However after spending a week in Chefchaouen, Morocco I couldn’t wait any longer. “IN PHOTOS” will not have a set schedule like my “MUSIC MONDAY” or “PHOTO ROUND UP” series. “IN PHOTOS” will be a post with several photos with no limit. The only restriction this series will have is that it must be about a certain subject or theme. I will write a brief paragraph or sentence describing the subject or theme of the photos and then post the photos. I will label the photos (if you hover over them with your mouse you will see the label), but I will not caption the photos like I do on my blog post or on “PHOTO ROUND UP” with my thoughts. I want to use “IN PHOTOS” to share my photos and let you come up with your own thoughts about the images and hope you share them with me.

Ahhh I don’t even know how to describe these 3 locations. I’m going to let the photos do it for me, but for now I’ll give you a quick insight to how this short adventure through Turkey went down.  I will condense a 5 day 4 night adventure to a few words. From Istanbul we made our way to Ephesus on a 10 hour night bus ride. Upon arriving at 8am we realized it was going to be a horrible day with dark skies and a lot of rain. Since we weren’t going to be staying the night we had to weather the storm and see the ruins anyway. So we did and they were impressive, but then shortly it started raining hard and we had to call it a day. We made our way to the bus station to catch a bus to Pamukkale (only 5 hours away). Upon arriving in Pamukkale we managed to find a a great hotel with a heater and warm water. We got some well needed rest. The next morning we were up bright and early and walked to the springs. Lukcy for us it was a BEAUTIFUL day… no ran and a lot of sun. We spent hours and hours in the springs, taking photos and enjoy the amazing views. Then that night it was time to catch another night bus. Laura was heading to Istanbul and I was heading to Cappadocia. We said our good byes and were on our way. I arrived to Cappadocia bright and early, it was of course freezing cold, but I was already amazed by this place. At the hostel I managed to meet 2 guys who had a rental car and offered me & others in the hostel to join them as they were going to tour the area on their own (it’s the photo of 5 us) . I of course did and in the end had a great time exploring Cappadocia for 2 full days in a rental car (thanks so much y’all). Then just like that my adventure was over and I was heading back to Istanbul on yet another night bus ride this time 12hours. During my short adventure in Ephesus, Pamukkale & Cappadocia I managed to capture what I think are some amazing shots. Hope you enjoy them~

  1. Wow! I love it! The pics are great! I just can’t wait! Thanks so much for sharing. 😀

  2. And my favorites were the tree with the blue glass hanging all over it. So beautiful. What does that mean? Do you know? And then the first pic for Cappadocia, like the road to Cappadocia. Just beautiful. And I love picture 14 in Pamukkale. The reflection of the trees on the water is just so lovely. I could just paint that on canvas.

    • Ahh yes that is one of my fav too… the blue things are “EVIL EYES” they are a big part of the culture in Turkey & Greece. It is meant to bring bad omens to the people they are directed at. I think if I remember correctly you are only supposed to receive them as a gift and then hang them somewhere. Not quite sure.

Oh & yes I like taking picture of the roads I am taking to get places it. I think they are so cool especially when its a long road. I forgot you are a painter… oh my… maybe when I my trip is over I’ll have you paint my fav photo.. That would be so damn cool!!!

      • The blue gas pieces are supposed to protect you from the evil eye. The idea is that people see you and the stuff you have and are jealous. The look of jealousy/envy is one aspect of the evil eye. It is as if they are wishing evil on you. So, when you have one of those hanging then it draws people’s eyes to it and they don’t see your stuff, thus it protects you. That is one part of it. Now, most Turks say they don’t really believe in it, but it is rare to see a house without one somewhere so interpret that as you wish. I remember once I was playing soccer with new shoes and I twisted my ankle pretty bad. Guys came up and said it was the evil eye because everyone was envious of my new shoes.
        Great pics by the way.

        • Thanks Duke very much for explaining it to us. I wasn’t sure if I was right or wrong… but now this makes sense. It’s kinda of like a Mexican suspesion that when someone wants something you have something bad happens to it… so in order for it not too you have to touch it and say “I don’t want to give it eye”. Crazy how worlds apart we have similar traditions. Okay well not traditions, but superstitions.

  3. Wonderful pictures. Takes me back. Look forward to seeing more…Glad you joined the Turkey club! 🙂

    • Asheligh you are about to make me cry… I love what you said. The sad thing is I must for two reason… money & i miss my family and friends!

Hope to see you when I get back… xoxo!

  10. Gorgeous pics of Cappadocia – what are those blue things on the trees?! And did you stay in Goreme, or one of the other towns in the region? (I’ve forgotten their names completely…)

Glad you enjoyed Ephesus, too. I visited in summer when it was scorching hot, it looks so different.

Also, that little girl in one of your Pamukkale photos is SO cute!!! I heard really mixed reviews on Pamukkale (I didn’t visit it personally) so I’m really interested to read what you had to think about it 🙂

    • Thanks WT, I loved all 3 places. The blue things in the tree are the EVIL EYE. I would explain but a local explained it better on one of the comments. Yeah I stayed in Goreme and enjoyed it alot. i can imagine how hot it gets, I’d prefer that than freaking freezing cold and rain…lol!!! Oh and Pamukkale is worth a visit. It’s sad that we the visitors are destroying it a bit, by doing so. It’s beautiful and I enjoyed it a lot.

  11. Great shots – as usual!! I’m so glad you made it to Pamukkale – *also a little jealous, as it’s been sitting on my list. Love the evil eye tree. These are inspiring me to go back to my favorite country asap.

  12. Jaime,

I love the photo of the evil eyes in the tree. What part of Cappadocia is that?

    • Jaime Davila says:

Thanks Lisa, it’s one of my fav it looks so cool. I don’t remember where it was exactly because I met some guys with a car and they drove all over the place. Also next to it was a tree with a million pots on it… very cool too!

  13. Gorgeous pictures of the blue eyes and the young girl!!
