Photo Round Up – Week 50

5 photo round up of what I saw/did this week.

Hope you all enjoy them.

Hot AirBalloon Ride in Luxor, Egypt!

So last Friday I went hot air balloon riding over Luxor. It is something I have always wanted to do and finally was able to live that dream. At only $50 I couldn't pass it up. I managed to get many amazing shots, but this one was by far my favorite. I love that no balloon is showing in full, but you can imagine how huge they are all of them up in the bright blue sky. I'd say more, but yeah I am writing a post about this too. So yay more photos soon!

Column of Karnak Temple, Egypt

This photo is by no means amazing, but it's a photo I like so much... I don't know what it is about it, but it just captures my imagination so much. This is column from the Temple of Karnak. The columns here are all just HUGE and have so much detail. I like the color, the detail, the hieroglyphics. This is what I had dreamed of seeing my life... all the Temples of Ancient Egypt!

Egyptian Food

One of the best meals I have had in Egypt. So what is this? Something so simple... chicken and potato. Not only do you get that but you get rice, lentil soup, a salad, bread and some amazing white dip I have no clue what it is. All for $4!!!

Garbage City, Cairo. Slums of Egypt

This week I visited Manshiyat Naser" also known as "Garbage City" on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt w/ GloboTreks. It's a city where the economy revolves around the collection of garbage. I didn't wander to far into it, but from what I did see it's heartbreaking. You literally see piles and piles of trash everywhere and families going through it & picking out what is sellable. This my favorite photo from the bunch. A goat, an office chair, tons of plastic bottles, and a family walking like nothing. I think it just captures the essence of this city. I will write more ont his later too as I have a post planed for it!

Behind Brick Walls in Tahrir Square.

My favorite shot of the week is this one. It was such a hard photo took get that I was not willing to give up. I wanted it and I wanted it bad. Around Tahrir Square you will see huge walls of big bricks in place to keep the military separated from civilians. We had tried getting it earlier in another place but were sent away. Then we found another wall that was isolated and even though everyone was looking at us I managed to finally get it. I love that you see the bricks you see the barb wire, you see the riot gear, you see the riot trucks and you even see some people.

  2. Jaime…love the pics. Was it really quiet or tense in the riot area? I haven’t heard much about Egypt lately.

    • Hey STEWWWWW thanks!!! Glad you like them… oh it’s so quiet. I haven’t had a single problem wondering around alone. Right now things are mellow yet a bit tense… it’s a strange amazing feeling.

  3. Ahhh Jaime! I want to ride in a hot air balloon too, it looks amazing and so much fun! I’m glad you persisted in getting that last shot, it turned out really well.

  6. The goat is somehow appropriate in a place called Garbage City. The idea of sifting through it though does sound tragic.

I love the hieroglyphic pillar and the idea that people wrote all over their architecture. That which now might be considered graffiti.

the last picture is powerful too.

Yes the goat in that shot is just amazing… and that place is tragic, but that the people are so happy and upbeat gives me hope for it. Oh the pilar is one of my favs and I don’t know why I mean in reality it’s just a pilar, but oh well I love it. & well the last photos is my fav this week… and cus it was so hard to get and powerful too.
