Amsterdam Street Art in photos.

“IN PHOTOS” is a series I use to share many of the hundreds of photos I have taken during my travels. It is a series I started after visiting Chefchaouen, Morocco and thought the best way to share my experience there was “IN PHOTOS”. “IN PHOTOS” will be a post with several photos with no limit. The only restriction this series will have is that it must be about a certain subject or theme. I will write a brief description of the subject or theme of the photos and then post the photos. I want to use “IN PHOTOS” to share my photos and let you come up with your own thoughts about the images and hope you share them with me. I have also numbered them in case you want to leave a comment about a specific photo.

I had never given street art much thought until I started traveling. At home I would see it and think “uh what a way to make our city uglier”. Now I don’t think that at all. Now I actually think street art gives a city personality. I think street art is amazing and gives a voice to people who may feel like they do not have one. I think it is a great way for people to express themselves and a way to make bland walls interesting. I’ve been to many cities now and hands down Amsterdam has some of the best street art I have ever seen. My all time favorite street art photo is this one. I didn’t post it here because I don’t like reusing photos I have already used. One of things I mentioned on that photo is that I spent time chatting with the two guys for a few hours and loved every minute of it. I am still not ready to share that awesome moment, but I do want to share with you some of the amazing street art I found as I explored Amsterdam. The most interesting part is that in Amsterdam Street Art is actually legal in certain parts of the city.

In the coming weeks you will see me publish post of Street Art from many cities I visited around the world. Street Art to me was one of my favorite things to photograph because like a photo you are capturing a moment in time. What most people don’t realize is that it’s important for the person who did it and sadly a piece could last a few weeks, days or even just a few hours before someone else comes and paints over it. Once that happens that piece of art is forever lost. These are photos I took while I was in Amsterdam for a week almost two years ago so I am sure today they are not longer there, but I’m happy I was able to photograph. The one thing I always wonder when I see Street Art “what message is the artist trying to convey or why has he/she drawn this?” Think of those questions when you scroll through the photos and look at the details, the colors or even the message behind it if it has one at all.
