A visit to the Sahara Desert again (this time in Egypt) in Photos.

“IN PHOTOS” is a series I will use to share many of the hundreds of photos I have taken during my travels. It is a series I have thought about for a while now, but did not want to start until I got back home from my trip. However after spending a week in Chefchaouen, Morocco I couldn’t wait any longer. “IN PHOTOS” will not have a set schedule like my “MUSIC MONDAY” or “PHOTO ROUND UP” series. “IN PHOTOS” will be a post with several photos with no limit. The only restriction this series will have is that it must be about a certain subject or theme. I will write a brief paragraph or sentence describing the subject or theme of the photos and then post the photos. I will label the photos (if you hover over them with your mouse you will see the label), but I will not caption the photos like I do on my blog post or on “PHOTO ROUND UP” with my thoughts. I want to use “IN PHOTOS” to share my photos and let you come up with your own thoughts about the images and hope you share them with me.

If you have been following me for a while you know that during my time in Morocco I had my ups and downs and was going to go home. You know it was Ms. Sahara herself who saved me. You also know I fell in love with her and fell hard. I fell so hard I wrote her an open letter. Oh & yes it was in that letter I let Sahara know she is a women. Well as you know I am now in Egypt and I knew that Ms. Sahara crosses all of Northern Africa from Morocco to Egypt (it really does check out a map). So you know I was not going to leave Egypt with out visiting her again. So I made my way from Cairo all the way to little Siwa Oasis near the border of Libya. Last time it was so romantic and well this time I wanted to go crazy. I decided a short 4×4 and sand boarding adventure would be just enough to feed my addiction. Before I let you continue I am going to briefly tell you why I love the Sahara Desert so much.

Imagine being in the middle of no where with billion upon billion of particles of sand for as far as you can see. Now imagine being in the middle of no where and looking around and not having any idea at all in which direction to go to because it all looks the same. It’s dunes after dunes and even more dunes. Every once in a while some rock formations, but even after a bit they too look the same. As you look around you see the dance the sand does with the wind. The wind shapes the many curves and ripples of Ms. Sahara and then sun give shadows to all the curves. It’s like a never ending pattern of amazing-ness. Well that is what it feels like to be in the Sahara and that is why I love it. It’s a sea of sand that comes from millions of years ago. The scary part is that it actually was once under the sea. As for describing the feeling you feel when you are there surrounded by it… I just can’t because no words in any dictionary can correctly describe that feeling. It is something you must experience for yourself to understand. For now you can enjoy these photos to get a taste of it.

  7. What cool pictures. It is crazy to see the seashells and think that it used to be the bottom of some ocean. Actually while looking at the pictures I was wondering what is at the bottom of all the sand. Is it sand all the way down? But then that is my technical mind, gotta shut down and enjoy the beauty.
