Music Monday – Independence Day

Anyone who meets me knows I love music. I love all types… ummm okay I love most types of music. For me its about the lyrics and what it is the artist is talking about or what message they are trying to convey. I love to dissect a song and its lyrics completely. Every Monday I want to post a song that either inspires me, makes me think about the world we live in, motivates me to always be who I am or may be something I was feeling at some point. It will be a great mix of different types of music and hope it will also do the same for you. I love to think that music captures what so many of us may be feeling or want to say, but don’t know how.

SONG – Independence Day

ARTIST – Martina McBride

LYRICS –

Well she seemed all right by dawn’s early light
Though she looked a little worried and weak
She tried to pretend he wasn’t drinkin’ again
But daddy left the proof on her cheek
and I was only eight years old that summer
And I always seemed to be in the way
So I took myself down to the fair in town
On Independence Day

Well word gets a round in a small, small town
They said he was a dangerous man
Mama was proud and she stood her ground
But she knew she was on the losin’ end
Some folks whispered and some folks talked
But everybody looked the other way
And when time ran out there was no one about
On Independence Day

Let Freedom ring, let the white dove sing
Let the whole world know that today is a
Day of reckoning
Let the weak be strong, let the right be wrong
Roll the stone away, Let the guilty pay, It’s
Independence Day

Well she lit up the sky that fourth of July
By the time that the firemen come
They just put out the flames
and took down some names
And send me to the county home
Now I ain’t sayin’ it’s right or it’s wrong
But maybe it’s the only way
Talk about your revolution
It’s Independence Day

Let Freedom ring, let the wight dove sing
Let the whole world know that today is a
Day of reckoning
Let the weak be strong, let the right be wrong
Roll the stone away, Let the guilty pay, It’s
Independence Day

Roll the stone away
It’s Independence Day

LISTEN TO IT HERE – Independence Day, Martina McBride

WHY I PICKED IT – This song is one of my favorite Martina McBride’s songs and is about a women in an abusive relationship who finally had enough and started her own revolution and gave her self an Independence Day she had been wanting for ever. It gives insight into how hard it is for some of us to gain INDEPENDENCE. Today is America’s Independence Day and I would like to ask you when is or was your INDEPENDENCE DAY??? My true Independence Day was March 1st of this year. I can now say I am 100% happy and look back and think everything leading up to that was my revolution with my self and my unhappiness to get to where I am tonight. I know this song is a whole different subject, but in the end INDEPENDENCE from what you are not happy with is INDEPENDENCE. I hope all of you that are not happy with anything in your life right now fight for your INDEPENDENCE and be happy. So start a REVOLUTION and celebrate your INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!

  1. Amazing Choice. Amazing song. Martina has one of the most powerful voices I’ve ever heard. This song and video always bring tears to my eyes. She’s awesome live as well. The lungs on that woman are amazing. Wow.

    • Thanks Corey, I love Martina and think this song is the perfect choice for 4th of July. This song sends a very powerful message and talks about a subject not many songs will ever talk about. She has several songs about abuse and breaking free from it. I am glad she is still around and making hits cus her voice is amazing.

  2. I won’t lie…I totally thought you’d pick “Miss Independent” Great choice though 🙂
