Jaipur the “pink city” that is NOT pink…

So yeah I have mentioned before that I don’t know much about India I knew the Taj Mahal was here but that’s about it & the truth is I have become a lazy planner. I just don’t plan as much as I used too. If traveling for a while has taught me anything it has taught me that 1) you really don’t need to plan much & 2) that plans change anyway. However for India we have found out we need to have some sort of plan to get the train tickets in advance. So me and my travel buddy Val have worked out a system. She does the searching of where all we are going and I deal with the haggling of rickshaws and hotels along with getting us the train tickets we need. We are a great team… she enjoys planning and well I enjoy saving us money.

As she did the planning she read about Jaipur and saw that it was described as a colorful city known as the “pink city”, because the old city is majority a light shade of pink. She was excited because that is her favorite color and I got excited because in my mind I pictured it to be like Chefchaouen. You know the town with a million shades of blue and thought oh this will be photo heaven too. Well the guidebook was wrong… the town was not PINK it was in fact ORANGE. I mean really look at the 1st 3 photos… please tell me that is NOT pink? Right it is not! That is orange to me.

In the end though we did enjoy the town anyway. We managed to actually do a lot. The first day we spent walking all over town and visiting many of the sights that were near us by foot. The next day we hired a rickshaw driver and he took us to many of the sights that were further away.  Here are some photos of Jaipur and everything we managed to do during our 2 days there.

GALTA & SURYA MANDIR (also known as Monkey Temple)

Our time in Jaipur was actually very good. I enjoyed everything we did and am glad I am getting to learn a bit about India’s culture and history. Oh & visiting the Monkey Temple reinforced the fact that yes I think monkeys are cute, but I am scared to hell of them. They can get so agressive & I only like that in bed… jaja jk. As for India it is still very chaotic with all the touts and rickshaw drivers coming at you from everywhere, but I am slowly getting the hang of it. I guess I got used to Egypt where I honestly blended in because everyone thought I was Egyptian.  So for now just need to get used to the intensity that is India.

Have you ever visited a town for a certain reason and turns out it’s not what you thought, but enjoyed it anyway?

Umm no Geoff I am not even going to call it that… it was orange… they need to rename it the ORANGE city.

That reminds me of the Friends episode where the guys are giving Ross crap about his “pink” shirt, but he says, “it’s not pink, it’s burnt salmon”. Be careful with the monkeys 🙂

  12. There’s a part of Jaipur that’s broken up into sections of jobs ex: all the marble workers are in the same area, all the weavers, etc and that area is all pink (and really loud and dusty)- maybe you missed it? I loved playing fort at the Amber Fort and remember this one badam milk place that we went to daily… you’re making me miss India!

  13. I was in Jaipur a couple weeks ago. Totally agree that it’s not that pink! I was really surprised because everything I had read about it said it was pink. Jodhpur is the blue city and was much more blue than Jaipur was pink. Also, read your post on Holi. I was in Mathura too. So freakin insane! Also, you are rockin it with being able to post so much. I found the Internet connections to be painstakingly slow.

Yeah Jaipur is not Pink & yeah Jodhpur had more blue lol!!! Wow you are the 2nd person to tell me they were in Mathura while I was there too for Holi. How crazy… small world. As for the posting and blog ahh it’s a pain. No guesthouse have WiFi or if they do they are too expensive so we have just been finding cafes with WiFi and making the most of it while we are online.

  14. Amazing, simply amazing pictures! Those monkeys are so cute:)
