Music Monday – Read all about it (pt. III)

Anyone who meets me knows I love music. I love all types… ummm okay I love most types of music. For me its about the lyrics and what it is the artist is talking about or what message they are trying to convey. I love to dissect a song and its lyrics completely. Every Monday I want to post a song that either inspires me, makes me think about the world we live in, motivates me to always be who I am or may be something I was feeling at some point. It will be a great mix of different types of music and hope it will also do the same for you. I love to think that music captures what so many of us may be feeling or want to say, but don’t know how.

SONG – Read all about it (pt. III)

ARTIST – Emeli Sande

LYRICS –

You’ve got the words to change a nation
but you’re biting your tongue
You’ve spent a life time stuck in silence
afraid you’ll say something wrong
If no one ever hears it how we gonna learn your song?
So come, on come on
Come on, come on
You’ve got a heart as loud as lions
So why let your voice be tamed?
Baby we’re a little different
there’s no need to be ashamed
You’ve got the light to fight the shadows
so stop hiding it away
Come on, Come on

I wanna sing, I wanna shout
I wanna scream till the words dry out
so put it in all of the papers,
i’m not afraid
they can read all about it
read all about it oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh

At night we’re waking up the neighbours
while we sing away the blues
making sure that we remember yeah
cause we all matter too
if the truth has been forbidden
then we’re breaking all the rules
so come on, come on
come on, come on,
lets get the tv and the radio
to play our tune again
its ’bout time we got some airplay of our version of events
there’s no need to be afraid
i will sing with you my friend
Come on, come on

I wanna sing, I wanna shout
I wanna scream till the words dry out
so put it in all of the papers,
i’m not afraid
they can read all about it
read all about it oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh

Yeah we’re all wonderful, wonderful people
so when did we all get so fearful?
Now we’re finally finding our voices
so take a chance, come help me sing this
Yeah we’re all wonderful, wonderful people
so when did we all get so fearful?
and now we’re finally finding our voices
so take a chance, come help me sing this

I wanna sing, I wanna shout
I wanna scream till the words dry out
so put it in all of the papers,
i’m not afraid
they can read all about it
read all about it oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh
oh-oh-oh

I wanna sing, I wanna shout
I wanna scream till the words dry out
so put it in all of the papers,
i’m not afraid
they can read all about it
read all about it oh

LISTEN TO IT HERE – Read all about it (pt III) – Emeli Sande

WHY I PICKED IT – YES IT’S BACK… I know it’s been a while. I didn’t post while I was in India, because internet was scarce and I didn’t have the energy to make sure I blogged and came up with a Music Monday. Then the first few Mondays I was in Egypt I was just to lazy to do it. I am lazy no more… I know Music Mondays are my least viewed posts, but I don’t care. I love music and want to continue bringing you songs that mean something to me. When I pick a song I pick it because I like what it is saying or the message it conveys to me. I often times though will visit “SongMeanings.net” to see what others think of the song & see what they get out of it.

I picked this song, because I recently got Emeli Sande’s album Our Version of Events and love it. I have had it on replay many times already. The entire album is amazing, however one of the songs that stuck in my head was the last one “Read all about it (pt III)”. I liked it a lot and loved the message it was conveying. I thought it was speaking to all of us… that we all have the power to change peoples minds for the better, but if we never try we are never going to change anything. I then thought let me see what other people are thinking of it and what I found was something I would have never thought of, but now see it CLEARLY.

“I think it’s about a highly scrutinized gay couple who can’t come out because of publicity and hatred. “you’ve got the words to change a nation, but you’re biting your tongue,”- (coming out), “baby, we’re a little different, there’s no need to be ashamed.”

And the entire song is about them wanting to come out to the public, they don’t care about the hate that they’ll receive anymore. “put it in all of the papers, they can read all about it.” “it’s about time we got some airplay of our version of events.”

I am just absolutely convinced that this is what this entire song is about. It’s very bittersweet, sweet because they want to come out and be themselves but they’re afraid and ugh, beautiful song. ” – guest on SongMeanings.net

This is why I love music… to one person a song can mean one thing & to someone else something completely different. I mean we clearly had the same result of someone changing things in the world they live in, but I would have never thought of a GAY COUPLE. I mean I know I am gay, but I don’t think everything is about us. Then I read the comments on the YouTube video I posted with the lyrics. Everyone kept mentioning this is LARRY… I am crying for LARRY. I kept wondering who is LARRY… so did more searching on google and found that LARRY is the nickname for two of the members of ONE DIRECTION “LOUIS & HARRY”. One Direction are a huge pop boy band in the UK with the hit album Up All Night. I did some more searching and found that they actually announced once that they were dating, but later told they couldn’t do that. So now I don’t know if they are back in the closet or not. I did though find this video with so many photos and video clips of them that shows how in love they are with each other with this song playing in the background.

I know crazy right… it makes me wanna know more about them. However t also makes me sad that they can’t come out. I know Emeli Sande, propably didn’t write this song about them, but it’s crazy how it relates to them.  My favorite part of the song though is the 1st verse.

“You’ve got the words to change a nation
but you’re biting your tongue
You’ve spent a life time stuck in silence
afraid you’ll say something wrong
If no one ever hears it how we gonna learn your song?
So come, on come on
Come on, come on
You’ve got a heart as loud as lions
So why let your voice be tamed?
Baby we’re a little different
there’s no need to be ashamed
You’ve got the light to fight the shadows
so stop hiding it away
Come on, Come on

I just think sometimes we all feel like this… sometimes I think we are scared to express how we feel because it may be different. We all have “a heart as lous as lions” lets not let it “be tamed”. Be you and be happy!!! Sorry this was a long Music Monday… I didn’t think it would be this long when I picked it, but just kept getting more and more info and thought I should share it. So what do you think of the song? Have you ever heard of Emeli Sande?

  1. An interesting interpretation of the lyrics, I didn’t think she was talking about a gay person not being able to come out, but it does make sense. I also didn’t know about ‘Larry’ and wonder if they had to step back into the closet for their U.S. breakthrough.. they are huge in the U.S. now too (first British band whose debut album went to #1 in the U.S.)

I know right? I didn’t think of it like that at all Dani, until I read that comment and then did more searching. It’s a great song for that meaning. I really hope that the whole “Larry” thing is not true, because if they did have to go back in the closet for their breakthrough in the US that is a shame. I mean it really is… After watching that video though they are in love. I mean chemistry like that can’t be written.

  2. Oh wow – I didn’t know anything about “Larry” but it kind of makes sense. Thanks for sharing this! I hadn’t heard the song before.

Me either Adam, but it was interesting to find out. Hope you enjoyed the song… it’s amazing.

    Beautiful x

  4. No, they are not dating and never were. Theyre just really good friends. Thats how the band members act with each other, and the video just focuses on Louis and Harry. I wonder if they get annoyed with all these ‘Larry’ rumors.

  5. I do think they are dating. And I believe something or someone is holding them back, maybe for money or for the society we live in (most people dislike/hate non-straight people, and young teenage girls are blinded hoping they have a chance with one of them)

  6. I definately think they’re in love. Whether they know it or not, they are. I just think they can’t come out by their choice because they’re afraid of people judging them or they don’t want the sales to go down. Harry is the most popular for the teen girls and basically he’s the front man. Another possibility could also be their label but i believe it was their choice to get beards and hide. Harry has Taylor Swift since recently and Louis has Eleanor Calder. Both of them don’t look too happy to be with them though…oh well! Have a great day xx

I absolutely love this song and while I didn’t follow the one direction through their career the song could fit with Larry and Harry. The song is beautiful and makes me cry – beautiful music with feeling makes me cry opera does it too. Anyway this song could apply to anything that one has had to keep a secret about anything through their life and is currently doing so or having to cope privately with a tough life , depression drugs , etc.

I think the ‘read all about it’ is the ultimate coming out of all these tough struggles.
      Love Emily sande !
