Music Monday – I Am

Anyone who meets me knows I love music. I love all types… ummm okay I love most types of music. For me its about the lyrics and what it is the artist is talking about or what message they are trying to convey. I love to dissect a song and its lyrics completely. Every Monday I want to post a song that either inspires me, makes me think about the world we live in, motivates me to always be who I am or may be something I was feeling at some point. It will be a great mix of different types of music and hope it will also do the same for you. I love to think that music captures what so many of us may be feeling or want to say, but don’t know how.

SONG – I AM

ARTIST – Train

LYRICS –

I never been on a railroad, as many times as they pass me by
I never crashed in the desert or seen a rodeo
I don’t know much about the world wars or Vietnam
I’ve yet to read about Uncle Tom
Never climbed a real rock or seen Colorado

Am I the son I think I am
Am I the friend I think I am
Am I the man I think I wanna be – hey

I never had a day where money didn’t get in my way
I never listened to much Elvis
I can’t remember a warm December

Am I the son I think I am
Am I the friend I think I am
Am I the man I think I wanna be

I’m here for my sanity sanity
I am here for you
I’m here for your fantasy sanity, I am here
I am

Am I the son I think I am
Am I the father that I think I am
Am I the man I think I wanna be

I’m here for my sanity sanity I am here for you
Whether or not I’m walkin in
Or whether or not I’m walkin out
I’m always here for you

And I’m here for my sanity sanity
I am here for you
I’m here for my fantasy sanity, I am here
I am

LISTEN TO IT HERE – I AM – Train

WHY I PICKED IT –  Train is one of my favorite bands ever. After Kelly Clarkson & David Gray they are my #3. I have been a fan of them since the beginning and love them up to today. I would have to say their best work was their 1st two albums they were both just genius. I love so many songs from them, but this is one of my favorite songs of all time. I have been thinking about this song a lot lately, because of the opening lines:

“I never been on a railroad, as many times as they pass me by
I never crashed in the desert or seen a rodeo
I don’t know much about the world wars or Vietnam
I’ve yet to read about Uncle Tom
Never climbed a real rock or seen Colorado”

It’s a song about saying who he is and admitting things he doesn’t know and well the truth is until this trip I had never been on a train or crashed in desert, but even up to day I don’t know much about the world wars or Vietnam or read Uncle Tom of climbed a rock or seen Colorado. I’m picking it now because I’m actually in Vietnam and feel quite embarrassed that I don’t know much about the war. For some reason when I hear this I feel like he is talking about me & my life. It just fits me so well not just for those reasons, but because he also questions himself:

“Am I the son I think I am
Am I the father that I think I am
Am I the man I think I wanna be”

I know I’m not the only one who does that, but I always question my life and who I am and who I have become and even though I’m happy I still wonder if it’s enough or if I should do more. By the end of the song though he answers his questions with:

“I’m here for my sanity sanity I am here for you”

And well if you have read my blog you know I’m always offering my help to anyone who needs it & the truth is I do this because I love it and keeps me sane and wouldn’t trade it for the world. I’m here for y’all even if I question myself and don’t know much about the world we live in. The good thing is that I am willing to learn about what I don’t know and explore the world with an open mind. That is what more people should have an open mind, but sadly don’t. Anyway that’s my pick for today. What do you think? Am I wrong for not knowing much, or questioning who I have become or feeling sane when I am helping others???
