900 days into my “BREAKAWAY” & even though I am home the timer keeps ticking!

Yup it’s been 900 days since I took off on my trip around the world & yes even though I am home now the timer keeps ticking!!! I remember when I first took off I wondered if I would stop the timer when I got home? At first I thought I would, but it wasn’t until I had been traveling a while when I realized that my “BREAKAWAY” is more than just counting the days on the road… I learned that my “BREAKAWAY” was about living life on my terms. That has been my New Years resolution for two years now and think I will continue to make it that so I make sure I do continue to live life on my terms and continue my “BREAKAWAY” no matter what.

I may be home, but I know I am still living life on my terms… yes it’s been hard coming back home, but I am here because I want to. I know I could easily pack my stuff up and take off to another country and figure out how to live there, but I don’t want to do that. Right now I am enjoying being home and making the most of it while I figure out what’s next in my life. Yup you got it… I am once again a bit lost. It’s like I know what I want, but not quite sure just yet how it’s all going to work out. I mean aren’t we all lost in life or no just some of us?

I have been asked by a few people how it feels to be home now and when am I going to write a post about it. The craziest thing is it’s about to be 6 months since I have been home. Yup on the 1st of September it will have been 6 months. I think that is a perfect time to post all my feelings on how it’s been for me since I returned home. Oh & trust me it may not be the cutest post, because I’m going to be dead honest about everything and the truth is coming home after two years on the road is not pretty. Especially when you come home with a broken heart because the last goodbye was the man you love.

Anyway more on that then, for now… CONGRATS to me for living life on my terms for 900 days and counting… let the time keep ticking & let’s all just be fabulous!!!

If you aren’t living life on your terms yet, figure out how to do it & get on it! Living life on your terms does not have to be about travel, it’s about being happy and making the most of the one life you have to live. When will your timer start ticking???

  1. Well said Jaime! I agree, beign home doesnt mean that you stopped living on your terms. Don’t worry too much about feeling lost. It’s a sign that you are alive, that you ask yourself questions and are not ready to settle for nothing less than what is best for you!
I cant wait to finally read your post about beign back home…perfect timing, especially for me,as i’m about to say my last goodbye as well very soon. Maybe i’ll get some strenght by reading your words as usual! And congratulations for your 900 days milestone!

Yeah even though I know what I want it’s like I still feel lost sometimes. It’s a feeling though that I think we need to have to know we are living. For now I just have to make the most of my circumstance and prepare for whatever is next in my life. As for my being back home post I haven’t written it yet, but will for sure for my 6 months mark. It only seems right to finally write about what it’s been like to come home. Thanks for always being here for me!!!

  2. I’m excited to say I’ve found this site on the 900th day! And I have to say after reading through about 2 dozen travel blog websites this is the best one! I decided last minute to go to Guatemala because we have a full week off work and made no sense staying home. So last minute that I was looking for some kind of guide and stumble upon this one and the read was so good that I stayed up to 3 am on both days just reading away. While I have seen a large chunk of the world, this was the first time that it is inspiring to plan a RTW trip one day!

Thank you so much Kent, I am glad you found my blog and that you like it!!! I am glad you have read a good portion of my blog too. If you do plan on making a RTW let me know and I will be more than happy to help you if I can. Cheers to travel!!!

      • I went with your recommendation with the Yellow House and it was a GREAT suggestion! The staff was so helpful with my trip. I came back with some nice small local souvenirs. I realized going RTW in a backpack will limit that. Doesnt make sense to spend 15 mins bargaining a $3 item and spending $10 to ship it home. I might decide to do 1 month chunks. I’ve been to so many places in your itinerary and looking forward to many many more!

  3. Congrats on 900 days (and then some) of living life on your terms! I can’t believe you’ve been home for almost 6 months already!

      Thanks so much Ali & lord I can’t believe it either… I just can’t!!! 6 whole fucking months… it’s insane.

  4. I agree with you completely about living life on your own terms. I definitely live unconventionally when comparing my life to family and friends. Sometimes, I am criticized for it, but I don’t listen to the naysayers. If we worry about what other people think all the time, we wouldn’t be doing what makes us happy. So yes, your breakaway has never ended because you broke away from the system to do something different and awesome.

Thank you so much UM, that’s how I feel. You said it so perfectly. I’m glad it hasn’t ended & won’t let it end. Now yet at least.
