Living a childhood dream… visiting The Great Pyramids of Giza!

I remember being around 8 years old watching a special on “The Great Pyramids of Giza” on PBS with my father. I remember being in AWE at the images of these HUGE PYRAMIDS.

I remember wondering,

“How the hell did people make this thousands of years ago?”

I remember telling my self

“One day I am going to visit Egypt and visit The Great Pyramids of Giza”.

Ever since then Egypt has captured my imagination and has been calling my name for years. I mean really who hasn’t been captivated by Egypt? The Mummies… the Pyramids… the Temples… the Gods… the Deserts… the Nile and now the Revolution.  The day finally came I was living one of my childhood dreams… visiting the Great Pyramids of Giza.

When I visit ruins I tend to wake up super early to be the 1st there, but these were different I was in no rush to be there early because I wanted to avoid the morning crowds and also see the sunset. I was also happy I was not going to be going alone. I was going to be going with Mica from KayPacha Travels. We planned to travel through Egypt together for a few weeks.

Upon arriving I was left speechless I couldn’t believe I was actually there. I couldn’t believe I was finally seeing them for myself. As we walked up to the Sphinx I told Mica to give me a sec, because I was getting tears. I know dramatic and an emotional mess… I couldn’t help it. We than spent hours wondering around and going photo crazy. I managed to get my Toe Touch photo and a million others. I was so happy I still couldn’t believe it.

Not until the end when we put up our cameras and sat there a bit just admiring them that it hit me…

“HOLY SHIT I AM ACTUALLY SITTING HERE LOOKING

AT THE GREAT PYRAMIDS OF GIZA FOR MYSELF”

I got tears again and had a million thoughts wondering my mind.

“How the hell did they build these things?”,

“Wow… they are fucking huge.”

“I would have loved to have seen them in full glory thousands of years ago.”

“Some of the thing humans accomplish are just breathtaking and amazing.”

“Ahh I still can’t believe I am doing this trip and am currently in Egypt.”

I’ve seen so many amazing things since the start of this trip, but wow finally seeing one of the things I have wanted to see my entire life is just a feeling I can’t explain. Later that day we took a good friend of mines (Giulia’s) advice and watched the sunset from the Pizza Hut roof across the street. It was an amazing way to end the long day exploring the pyramids.

  1. Ooh! That’s so amazing! I can’t really tell the difference of each pyramid from the others though.

I want to visit the pyramids too, though that’ll take a while.

One place I’ve always wanted to go to since I was a kid, or maybe younger than I am now, was Japan! But luckily, I was able to drop by last 2009! Though I want to go back again and explore other parts of the country.

Oh Japan that is a country I want to visit, but not this time around cus I know its a bit expensive. Glad you were able to see your #1 country. It’s such an amazing feeling.

  2. I feel you on the tears! My childhood ambition was to see the Taj Mahal, and when I did, I cried. Freely. To the point where I needed to put on my sunglasses.

It’s a beautiful thing, to finally see ‘that place’ that’s intrigued you since you were little. Glad it was such a great experience!

    Love and miss you lots!

    • I actually thought of you when I was there Cecy… yes right outside the gates is a Pizza Hut and KFC. I hadn’t had Pizza Hut in MONTHS so we decided to order a large pizza and wings and eat there. We watched the sunset on the roof top and it was amazing.

I know your dream is to travel through Europe especially Paris, and I hope one day you do make it there. When I get back I will help you make it happen at what ever cost. Europe is amazing and you deserve seeing it. You have worked to hard to not see it. I love you Cecy & miss you so much.

    • Andrew I have been waiting since the day I read that post to give it a go and finally did… best tip ever given from anyone. Thanks, I know now I do need to dream of new things, but have so many still to achieve.

  10. I love that it was such a moving experience for you that you were brought to tears. Gorgeous photos. The first time I saw the Pyramids of Giza was actually at sunset. we were driving down the highway and saw them — we had to stop and take photos. We just stood there in awe. When we finally went to visit them we rode camels around them. That was pretty awesome.

My husband was living in Egypt at the time he graduated high school, so his high school graduation ceremony was held AT the pyramids and the class photo was taken ON the great pyramid.

I do wish we could both see them again, though, because even though we’ve both been there, we haven’t been there together. Thanks for sharing your experience and photos!

It will make for a very romantic experience.

  11. Wow Jaime! You snapped some pretty incredible photos during your visit to the Pyramids! Great work. Although, photos just don’t justify the size of these things do they? I remember being there last year and just being in complete awe…
